It has become a fearsome thing for parents to here "my space". Parents are automatically cautious to allow for their children and or teens to set up blog sites on my space due to the latest news stories of cyber bullying and teen suicide. Internet dangers are there in full force with cyber bullying, online predators, and fraud and identity theft.
Our children often believe that they will not be affected by these threats.It is our role as parents or guardians to learn about these dangers and teach our youth that they are in fact susceptible and how to prevent these dangers from occurring to them. Internet predators are endlessly searching sites such as My Space for easy prey. Do not mislead others in thinking that you are older than you actually are.
Do not post any text that could be considered threatening or inappropriate.Report any threatening or inappropriate that you see or receive by clicking on report abuse.. Do not post any thing embarrassing such as nude pictures as this is permanent and they might show up when you are looking for a job or something else.Basically just keep your site clean and professional.
My Space is a public place. Make sure your kids know not to post anything on there site that they do not want the world to know. Do not talk to strangers like you wouldn't in real life and do not meet up with people you do not know.
Let your kids know that you will be checking on there site and profile to see who there friend are and such.. This is not taking away their privacy, as it is simply a safety precaution. Discuss this with your child as conversation is the most important thing in child internet safety.There is good things happening on my space such as children joining groups involved in politics or music just make sure they are safe.
